David has been a patron of the charity for 14 years. In that time, he has helped raise in excess of £15 million to fund gene therapy research; he devised and hosts the Annual Breathing Life Awards celebrating the extraordinary achievements of people with Cystic Fibrosis-the UK’s most common life-threatening genetic illness.
David is a celebrity ambassador for the British Red Cross, the largest independent humanitarian charity. He has been involved in high-profile campaigns, including getting first aid taught in schools.
Cancer affects 1 in 3 of us in the UK. David is passionate about supporting the UK’s largest cancer charity offering support to families affected by the disease, funding research into new therapy areas and helping those who have cancer to get the best possible treatment. He is especially involved in prostate cancer and developing better screening to catch it early.
David became a patron of the FPA -the UK’s leading sexual health charity three years ago. It aims to move the health agenda forward and gives support and advice on all aspects of sex, sexual health and relationships.
David has recently joined an advisory board of THT. His priorities are to improve the profile of HIV/AIDS, counter myths amongst young people and raise awareness of the disease. He is also particularly interested in policy around the possible introduction of home testing kits for HIV.
David has been a celebrity ambassador for over six years encouraging young people and schools to get involved in the scheme. He has also presented gold awards on behalf of the Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham palace and Windsor Castle.
